Texas

For Spring Break I had a couple days off work, so we went to Austin Texas to visit Aunt Kathy and Uncle Craig Sharp.  This is just a few of the photos we took and a brief summary of our vacation.  I hope to write in my journal more of the details.

Buc-ee's is the largest gas station and convenience store I have ever seen.  I guess everything is bigger in Texas.  Like a grocery store and small clothing and souvenir shop in one.  There were probably about 100 gas pump stations.

 In Round Rock, at the Round Rock.  The pioneers used it as a landmark to know where to cross the river.

 Bluebonnets were out in bloom.  So pretty.  Driving around we would just see huge fields and patches of them.  The Texas State flower.

 Fly fishing on the Colorado River with guide Alvin Dedeoux.  We had a super fun time catching largemouth bass, and guadalupe bass.  We were using poppers and it was so fun to see them come up and smash the surface of the water to get the fly.  Guadalupe bass is a new species for both of us, only found in Texas.  It's the state fish.

 At the San Antonio Missions.  We got to visit 4 of the 5 missions, including the famous Alamo.

 Aunt Cathy and Uncle Craig were so fun to be with and they spoiled us so much.

 We got to catch up with our friends Kolt and Susannah Harris, who live in San Antonio.  It was very fun to see them!  We went out to eat with them, too.

 At Round Rock Donuts.  They were so yummy!  And I dare say they were better than Krispy Kreme.  Hot Fresh Donuts...yum!  And we saw Santa in the store behind us in line.  Didn't get a photo, but he had red pants, white beard and all.  And he drove a bright red pickup truck with decals on it that said "powered by 8 tiny reindeer" and Santa on the driver side door.  I so wish I would have gotten a photo with him.

 Craig and Cathy treated us to some good Texas BBQ.  Beef Brisket and all the sides to go with it.  Creamed corn, coleslaw, baked beans.   It was super yummy and a great experience.  Eating on white butcher paper for plates.

In Austin at the State Capital.  We got to go inside too and did a self-guided tour of some of the different rooms and chambers.  It was very cool!

Huge Texas cactus.  Was very good weather the whole time we were there.  We had a blast.  Can't wait to go back again.
